Comprehensive Orthodontics

Comprehensive Orthodontics

ComprehensiveOrthodonticsComprehensive Orthodontics is the same thing as “full braces”. Usually this treatment takes place once a patient has all of his or her permanent teeth. The best time to start varies and depends on a number of things. These can include: the nature of the orthodontic problems that need to be corrected, a patient’s hygiene and periodontal health, the growth status of a patient, the dental maturity of a patient, coordination with other restorative procedures (such as implants or bonding), and overall patient health.

Comprehensive treatment varies in duration from patient to patient. It may be brief like correcting simple crowding. Or it may be lengthy if there are significant bite or alignment problems such as impacted teeth, numerous missing teeth, or severe overbite or under bite cases. The duration is also impacted by patient compliance with things such as hygiene, elastic wear, keeping appointments, etc.

There is no set age that every patient should begin orthodontic treatment, because every patient is unique. Dr. Pollei believes personalized orthodontic treatment results in superior results compared to cookie-cutter treatment. To that end, some patients may be ready to begin comprehensive treatment following an initial consultation. For others the recommendation may be made to wait to begin treatment to allow more teeth to erupt or to coordinate treatment with peak adolescent growth. Ultimately, our goal is for orthodontic treatment to yield the best treatment possible in the most efficient, beneficial, and cost-effective way!
